The heart of Kansas

Over the next couple of days, the plan is to get into the right mood and know the participating musicians a little better. I must admit that I have no really privileged information as of yet. That might be just as well, since we can all start from roughly the same place. Then again, there’s room for embarrassment, because right now I have to make sense of the following details, the very first event of the festival:

To the Heart of Kansas

Gareth Lubbe _trumpet violins

Hayden Chisholm _sax, frame drums, guitar, voice

BJ Cole _pedal steel guitar

The longer I stare at that, the more sure I am that Hayden will pull a stunt and become the first throat-singing Country and Western crooner in musical history ever. Think about it for a moment, and it even starts to make musical sense. They usually yodel, don’t they? Where’s the connection in that? Just look at the landscape, parched reddish rocks in the blistering sun, you can throat-sing ‘em, but yodelling’s just way off. Nashville will never be the same again.
